BEN
Big Ben is a popular name
for Elizabeth Tower,
a landmark clock tower and icon of the city of
London and the United Kingdom. The
tower is located at the end of
Westminster Bridge, London, and is part of the eastern end of the palace of
Westminster or now more commonly known as the Houses Of Parliament.
As landmarks of
London, Big Ben became the most popular tourist attractions in the
UK and is a major destination
for tourists, both local and foreign tourists. Big Ben also frequently
appears as an
icon of London in a variety of visual media, such as advertising, brochures,
postcards and also
Hollywood films. The tower is also used as the center
of New Year celebrations annually by Britons.
Name Big Ben originally
referred to the biggest bell
in the clock
tower, which is the
main bell that rang loudest every hour.

every quarter of an hour alternately. Big Ben
clock tower (the
official name of the Great Clock Of Westminster)

Big Ben was formerly known as the Clock Tower. However, on the
anniversary of the reign of the
60th year of Queen Elizabeth II in 2012,
the tower's name was
changed to Elizabeth Tower
as
a form of respect for the queen.
